Last Thursday, my husband Marc and I attended the Brooks Run Happy Bloggers’ Night. It was nice to see my TBR Dream Marathon “batchmates” at the event — which, I must say, reminded me once more that the one-month post-marathon “recovery” should be over and done with
I’ve been slacking off training the past month. The upcoming Brooks Run Happy on May 22 would be a great opportunity to start training again.
After a filling and healthy dinner, we were introduced to Brook’s product lines and eco-friendly technology. Surprisingly, they are willing to share their BioMoGo midsole technology with competitors. I guess they really are serious about finding eco-friendly solutions that all can benefit from.

Now, what’s interesting about this BioMoGo midsole is how it’s able to degrade at half the time the usual midsole rubber does — which then lessens the environmental impact when old shoes are discarded. What’s even better is that they’re willing to share this rubber technology with their competitors. So it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that Brook’s chosen beneficiary for its upcoming Brooks Run Happy event is a livelihood building project in Quezon province under Hon. Gary Estrada that utilizes PET bottles, an environmental-friendly concept started by Illiac Diaz with the Bottle School Project.
The Brooks Run Happy race will take place on May 22, 2011 at the Bonifacio Global City. Race organizer Thumbie Remigio gave us a preview of the race maps for each distance, and patiently answered concerns from bloggers regarding hydration, safety and security. Brooks and the organizers have placed a cap on the number of participants — limiting the runners to only a few thousand (I can’t remember exactly, but I do recall the projected number of runners isn’t much) — for safety and security reasons. So I guess we can expect an organized and safe run. And as they say, the better organized the run is, the more we can all “run happy.”
Aside from the cool yellow Brooks singlet, every finisher from any category will receive a finisher’s medal. I don’t have a 10k finisher’s medal yet (my first official 10k run was at NatGeo, and they didn’t have a finisher’s medal for 10k), so this Brooks run will probably be my best chance to get one
In lieu of their event’s theme, Brooks took it a step further and made the running bloggers at the event “happy” with a raffle. I didn’t get the grand prize (a pair of awesome Brooks running shoes), but I did win a prize!
I got a Grande Shin Compression Wrap!
I tried it the very next day, and it worked like a charm. It works differently from my leg sleeves (which compresses the entire lower leg), and has a more “targeted” approach. It’s particularly useful during my recovery runs, when it’s more comfortable for me to just put compression on a specific area and not the entire lower leg.
With my new compression wrap and the Brooks Run Happy coming soon, I no longer have any good reason to slack off on running. Besides, the whole month of on-again, off-again running has been taking its toll on me — I’m seriously starting to feel really lazy and unhealthy
Time to get back to training!
