Welcome to Binary Feet! I’m Gail Dela Cruz – Villanueva, and this is my running blog. Most people in the blogosphere know me as Kutitots, a web designer / blogger, and co-founder of the Philippine Blog Awards. Very few know that I used to be an athlete, unless they’ve read my extensive About page
After living the “typical” unhealthy geek lifestyle (and not to mention gaining an unforgivable amount of weight), I have decided last December 2009 to get my ass off the computer chair for at least an hour or two a day to run, bike, or head to the gym. My sedentary lifestyle for the past 7 years had already taken its toll on me — my asthma resurfaced.
You see, I have always been asthmatic. I was born with it. But I learned to control it when I joined the basketball and track teams in my younger (like elementary and high school younger!) years. I used to shoot hoops with the boys back in college, so I never really ran out of exercise until I started as a work-from-home web designer where I learned to depend on smoking and caffeine to keep me awake and glued to my home office chair. I’ve long abandoned the bad habit of smoking (it’s been more than 3 years), now I’m trying to learn to control my asthma and eventually get off the excess weight and be healthy once more in the process.
Running has helped me a lot. It’s a struggle starting out again. Right now, I’m back at a stage when I need to focus on increasing endurance first before speed. Unlike before, I now need to slow to a walk whenever I feel an onslaught of an asthma attack coming. That slows me down
Considering that I used to be a short-distance sprinter, being at the bottom once more is kind of hard to swallow. But pride aside… Being at the bottom now means that the only way to go is up!
Hope you’ll join me in my grueling journey to get fit through running!
Why “Binary Feet”?
Well… I wanted a name that would set my blog apart from other running blogs. There are just so many running blogs now that it’s hard to think of something different. So I thought of just combining two words that pertain to two of my favorite hobbies: web design and running.
“Binary” came from the binary numeral system, used internally by computers and represented by 1′s and 0′s. That’s the web design part. “Feet,” I think is obvious. Feet = Running!
There you go! It’s not much of a history. If you’re expecting a better story for the name, sorry to disappoint

Hi Gail, I thought I recognized that photo of you with the vintage Yamaha bike. It’s kutitots! Glad to find out you’re into running as well. Next time we have an event, I’ll know better and send you an invite.
